The new Hellboy Reboot Trailer Is Here and It Looks Like A Blast!

The first trailer for the Hellboy reboot is finally here. The footage had originally been screened at New York Comic Con and now the who world can see Stranger Things star David Harbour in all his Hellboy glory. The movie was initially met with a mixed response, given that the Guillermo del Toro movies still have a devoted fan base and many of them wanted to see del Toro wrap up his trilogy. Instead, David Harbour suits up in red prosthetics and hopefully, this first footage will be enough to get everyone on board with this new take.

This new iteration comes from director Neil Marshall, who was previously known best for his work on the horror movie The Descent. He's also worked quite a bit on some very well-regarded episodes of Game of Thrones. This new version of the franchise is going for the R-rated crowd and, throwing Marshall's previous credits in a blender, which include big-budget fantasy and hardcore horror, it seems like he could very well have been a perfect choice. This is going to be a much bloodier and hardcore take on the character than we've seen previously.

The cast also stars Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Brian Gleeson, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sophie Okonedo. David Harbour has to do the heavy lifting here, as this movie really rides or dies with him. Milla Jovovich is on board as the villainous Blood Queen. Originally, Deadpool star Ed Skrein had been cast in the role, until the production had been accused of whitewashing and Skrein stepped down and the ultimately went to Daniel Dae Kim. That paved the way for Kim to come in and the movie is probably all the better for it.

There are those who will not be upset that this is a reboot instead of Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 3. But his first two movies didn't make all that much money at the box office, especially by modern standards, and his third movie would have been a very expensive venture. As sad as it is that we never got to see him finish things up, this actually makes the most sense for modern moviegoers. Will it pay off? We'll soon find out Hellboy releases on April 12, 2019. Be sure to check out the first trailer below.
